Dodge and Star Wars cross-promotion?

Everybody seems to be in

You have to have been hiding under a rock to know that the latest Star Wars stormtrooper helmetmovie, “The Force Awakens”, because the promotion is everywhere. Walmart is in big time as is Verizon and a bunch of others. I love both of the spots. I must have heard five while doing this blog entry. You know I’m a Star Wars fan from this previous post and of course I’m a car guy. So the other day, I’m looking at the design changes made to the uniforms especially the Stormtrooper helmet, which by the way, are now being sold all over the place. This one from anovos.com ($249.99). Tiny Continue reading Dodge and Star Wars cross-promotion?

What car or truck would Darth Vader drive?

OK, stick with me here

star wars, darth vaderToday is Halloween and decided to wear my Darth Vader costume. I came up with the idea of this wacky post while I was driving into work this morning, wearing the costume. Wish I could have used the forces of the Dark Side to get the pokey drivers going. Yes, I got looks, lots of them, and smiles.

I’ve seen all the Star Wars movies and thinking back did not remember seeing any scenes where Vader drove a vehicle. Probably because that was so last year by then. I do remember him flying a TIE Advanced x1 fighter in the first move when the Rebels were attacking the Death Star. Luke Skywalker was leading the attack and the only one who had a shot at him was Vader. His personal ride was Super Star Destroyer Executor, the premier command ship of the Imperial Navy, and the first of the Executor-class Star Dreadnought line. OK, am I getting way to geeky on this. Yes, I am a Star Wars fan. Saw the first movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope which came out in 1977 14 times. I know, it’s a sickness now spread to my daughter.

Enough of the Star Wars all ready

2014 Subaru BRZ Limited

Fun, Fun, Fun till daddy takes the BRZ away!BRZ

Rarely have I driven a sports coupe that was more pure fun to drive and garnered more attention than the Subaru BRZ, and yet …

The BRZ, a kissin’ cousin to Scion’s F-RS, is far from perfect. But it’s so much fun you might overlook most of its shortcomings.

First, there are many bright spots. It’s an edgy looking sports car, one that gets thumbs up at stoplights from young men, young women and guys on motorcycles. It has a triangular center mounted brake light below bumper level in back and the tested Limited model touts a mean Star Wars look rear wing that even Darth Vader would give a thumbs up.

The test car was a dark metallic gray that complimented that edgy, somewhat menacing look, and being rear-wheel drive and packing a 200-horse Boxer 4-cylinder, the car has excellent balance and a peppy feel. BRZ accelerates quickly from a stop, but doesn’t have explosive power as it would if the car’s horizontally opposed Subaru-designed engine had a turbocharger. Could there be one in the future? One can hope.

BRZ1Subaru also gives the car an easy shifting 6-speed manual that slips through the gears smoothly and synchs well with the engine to give it that pep. The clutch works well too, so unlikely you’ll tire in thick traffic or kill the engine at a stoplight.

Handling is light and easy too with good steering feedback and the car feels well balanced so it zips through tight corners like the sports car that it is and with the car’s rear wheels feeling well planted. The low profile provided by the Boxer engine keeps the center of gravity low, which also helps handling. A Torsen limited-slip differential and stability control give BRZ sticky footing upon acceleration and in corners and much of the car’s light feel is attributable to its modest weight, just 2,776 lbs. Slot cars? Star Wars Speeders

Star Wars Battle of Endor, star wars, land speeders, ewok, luke skywalker, slot car reviews, savageonwheels.comOK, show of hands. Who’s a Star Wars geek? OK who’s seen the movies? OK, who has ever heard of Star Wars? You know, “May the force be with you”. Big guy in black that has trouble breathing. This movie clip should help. Well if you haven’t, you’ve been stuck on some tropical island for the last 4o years. And you didn’t invite me? I am definitely built for warm weather. Anyway back to Star Wars. I was standing in line as a kid to watch the first film in the series released on May 25, 1977, under the title Star Wars. I paid to watch the movie 14 times before getting a bootleg video copy. Only kidding. Call off the FBI. Then I saw the next two although, not 14 times, but a lot. Hey I had extra time on my hands just graduating from college with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Those jobs didn’t exactly grow on trees then. Fast forward about 30 years or so where I’m now a dad with a 13 year old daughter, who just like dad, is into Star Wars, but bigger than me. Getting my drift here on how this Star Wars thing is big and transcends generations? And it will only get bigger because the planets, in this case Dagobah and Coruscant, have aligned. With Disney’s recent purchase of Lucasfilm, the Star Wars brand will become even stronger especially because new movies are coming out. Continue reading Slot cars? Star Wars Speeders
