At almost 19 feet it’s a real Caddy
If you drove one of these in the late 60s it would have given people the impression that you’ve arrived. This week’s spot, a 68 Caddy Deville Convertible is an automobile of understated elegance. It was known for its distinctive styling, large V-8 engine, and luxurious interior. The average price of a new car in 1968 was $2,822, while a 1968 Cadillac ranged from $5,315 to $6,899 before options.
Powered by a 375 gross HP, 472 CI V8 engine, 225 inches in length, a 129-inch wheelbase, and 4,800 lbs. in curb weight it could do 0-60 in just under 8 seconds. A Turbo-Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission was the only transmission available.
Inside this car oozed luxury with leather upholstery and thick carpeting that you’d want to run your toes through along with real rood door panel inserts. Air conditioning was also standard even on a convertible.
RELATED Spot: This Cadillac was not only built for comfort but also for speed.
What are they worth now? Only 18,000 copies were assembled in ’68 so you’d think they’d be on the pricey side but you can have all this metal for as low as $11,600 in Fair condition according to Hagerty. The most you would pay would be $82,000 in Concours condition. The models with fixed roofs are a bit less. But think about it. Where could you get this big of a car nowadays with all that luxury for 82 grand?
Thanks for stopping by and checking out this week’s spot. Come back next Friday for another one of my spots I’ve found along with some of its history. Have a great weekend.

Cadillac is pure American luxury. Beautiful car and comfortable ride. I was proud and excited to drive them. When people saw you coming they would turn their heads for a second look. Presently looking for a 60’s model now.

I own a 1968 DeVille convertible in near new condition. Nothing else looks like it, smells like it, or rides like it. You would need to pry it out of my cold dead hands to get it away from me.
