William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy reunite for VW TV spot
Did I ever tell you that I’m a huge Star Trek fan? Yuppers since the original series was on in the 60’s all the way to the end with the last of the franchise TV show, Enterprise. I have built most of the Enterprises along with some other star ships. In fact, what caught my eye about this spot is the screen grab on the left from the kid’s bedroom. Pretty close to what I had.
Me and William Shatner are tight. A couple of years ago a flying buddy of mine made a flying replica of the Enterprise A and I made a video, uploaded it to my YouTube site and that’s when the fun began. Views started climbing faster and faster. I started digging down into the comments and it turns out “The Shat”, Bill wants all his close friends to call him that, tweeted about the video and I tweeted back. Yup, we’re tight:) Go check it out but hurry right back.
Ok, back on topic here. VW is using the duo to introduce its e-Golf electric vehicle and its XL1, the mini-spaceship coupe that’s only sold in Europe due to its $140,000 price tag. Ouch! You know how I feel about electrics. Fun spots though. Read more about them and less about me here.
What’s better than the Corvette Z06 coupe? Answer: A Convertible. The New York Auto Show promises to be a busy one for reveals. It’s not as simple as just wacking the top off. Loosing the roof structure means added support will be needed. Chevy found the solution. The coolest new car just got cooler.
Remember the Vettes that got chewed up in a sinkhole?
Dodge’s two muscle cars were long overdue for facelifts
The question now is what that will look like. The 2015 Dodge Challenger and the 2015 Dodge Charger, both of which will be revealed Thursday, April 17 at the New York Auto Show, just ahead of the Dodge brand’s 100th anniversary this summer. Read more in their release here including how to watch the reveal live. No pictures though except oh, will you look at this one! They will have a ways to go to beat Subaru’s reveal at the Chicago Auto Show.Looks pretty cool. I’ve also seen a couple of images with the Charger in a two-door version. Now you’re talking. Next stop NASCAR. Not.
What will the Challenger look like?
If you thought they were funnin’ us with the Charger teaser image, check out the Challenger image. Instrument cluster looks cool. They are telling me you will notice the difference from the 2014. What about the SRT Barracuda? At one point it was going to replace the Challenger. Car and Driver has a concept that looks cool but like the new Jeep Cherokee, the hardcore hate it. Read down into the comments. I kind of agree that it has to look something like the original. Can’t wait for the reveal.
Sometimes bad weather leads to good things like increased sales for Chrysler’s Jeep and Dodge brands. Jeep brand sales, up 47 percent in February, are the brand’s best February sales ever and the largest percentage sales gain of any Chrysler Group brand for the month. The Compass, Patriot and Wrangler each set sales records for the month of February. Grand Cherokee sales were up 34 percent while the all-new Jeep Cherokee mid-size SUV were up 12 percent compared with sales in January. Dodge Ram pickup trucks posted its best February sales in eight years, up 26%. Read more here.
After introducing their Concept Coupe at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Concept XC Coupe at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, Volvo will utilize the Geneva Auto Show next week to introduce their Volvo Concept Estate. Besides being cool looking, it is packed with technology. According to Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president of design at Volvo Car Group. “The new user interface is designed to create a smooth, logical and safe interaction between the driver and the car,” says Ingenlath. “This goes far beyond just putting a large tablet in the center of the dashboard. We have created a digital environment that is fully integrated in the car.” I love the sun roof! Read more about this concept car that may soon become a reality here.
It used to be you and me as part of Obama’s green energy push but we’re off the hook now, and out the money, because the new owner is…..wait for it….China’s Wanxiang Group with a $149.2 million bid. Cool cars but the market is not ready for this type of technology despite what the White House says. I’m showing my political side here. Sure I believe in climate change, it changes every day. Today here in Milwaukee, it’s 45 and sunny. Tomorrow it will be 40 and rain. As an FYI, buddy Mark is on the exact opposite side. We love to disagree! Read more, not about us, the car.

2014 MINI Hardtop which goes on sale in the spring
Here in Wisconsin spring can’t come fast enough. It’s actually what I would consider balmy at 26 degrees as I write this blog entry. Woohoo, break out the shorts. I like the Mini brand because they remain dedicated to their core product while finding new ways to extend the brand. Read more here about pricing for the 3rd gen hardtop and what else is new.
