Die-cast: Autoart Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Porsche 911 GT3 a rare racer … Autoart Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Porsche 911s are a dime a dozen in the real world, but the GT3 RS model is rare indeed, except the German automaker has been cranking out these race-ready models since 1999. That translates to about 14,000 of these high-priced babies rolling out of the Stuttgart plant’s doors.

Autoart has created a snazzy street version model in 1/18 scale and lucky for us it’s bathed in a Lava Orange paint job. Yum! Continue reading Die-cast: Autoart Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Silver Cheetah a muscular winner in 1/18 scale  …Replicarz 1964 Cheetah

Hard as it is to imagine, the funky Cheetah sports car has never been reproduced in 1/18 scale, at least not this stunning silver version that Replicarz has chosen to make as part of its Sports Car series.

This sealed body cast-resin model highlights the Cheetah’s truncated rear end and long muscular hood with air filter cover and giant wheels under its bulging fenders. Continue reading Die-cast: Replicarz 1964 Cheetah

Auto World True 1/64 Chevy Impala

True 1/64 scale cars are little gems from Round2 …

Didn’t most of us start out collecting Matchbox, or later Hot Wheels, die-casts?

I spent a lot of time ogling and dreaming about those 75 metal 1/64 (roughly) scale Matchbox vehicles in my hobby shop’s display case. And when really lucky, I snagged a catalog. They were affordable, and a load of fun to play with, even before they developed better wheels.

Die-cast: CMC’s 1952 Jaguar C-Type

CMC’s detail is drop-dead gorgeous on Jag C-Type …CMC 1952 Jaguar C-Type

Jaguar was dominant at Le Mans in the 1950s as a series of its sports cars were developed into racers. The XK120 started it all after World War II and the long-hooded sleek sports car set the styling and performance standards.

What grew from that was the C-Type racing Jaguar and now CMC produces the 1952 variant in several paint schemes and race trims. Our review sample was the unmarked British Racing Green model in 1/18 scale. Continue reading Die-cast: CMC’s 1952 Jaguar C-Type

Die-cast: Replicarz’s 1957 Vanwall Special

Britain’s Vanwall was dominant F1 racer, briefly …Replicarz 1957 Vanwall Special

Vanwall, the name alone sounds intriguing when attached to a green monopasto racer that somewhat resembles a racing cigar. Vanwall is the team name for one of Britain’s first Formula One race teams, the first to win the F1 Constructor’s Championship, in the first year it was offered, 1958. Die-cast: Replicarz’s 1940 & ’41 Indy 500 Maseratis

Replicarz Maserati

Latest 1/43 scale Maserati racers are a colorful duo …

The late 1930s and early 1940s saw race cars developing quickly into what we would consider modern racers and Wilbur Shaw and his Boyle Special, a Maserati 8CTF, led the way at the Indianapolis 500, but others followed quickly.

In 1939 Shaw won the 500 in his Maserati with its 365-horsepower 3.0-liter straight-8 supercharged engine, and to put an exclamation point on it, repeated the win in 1940 and darned near did it again in 1941, the last 500 before WWII. But it didn’t take his competitors long to figure out Italy’s horsey Maserati grand prix cars with their lightweight aluminum bodies could conquer Indy.

Neo’s 1960 Plymouth Valiant Wagon

Plymouth Valiant Wagon sharp in 1/43 scale … 20180620_154322

Wagons are ho-hum these days, and nearly extinct, unless you count crossovers as wagons.

But in the 1960s they were a big deal as families tried to make room for the Baby Boom generation that was rapidly filling up their sedans. At the same time, a sizeable portion of auto buyers was looking for smaller, more economical cars. Hey, all those kids needed food and sneakers too! Continue reading Neo’s 1960 Plymouth Valiant Wagon
